Kicking Goals for Change: Empowering Migrants One Goal at a Time
In a powerful display of community, sport, and solidarity, Migrants Empowered, in partnership with Elite Soccer Youth Development Academy, hosted the first edition of “Kicking Goals for Change”—an initiative that seeks to empower migrant communities through the unifying power of soccer.
Held on the grounds of Eleanor Roosevelt High School, located at 7601 Hanover Parkway, the event brought together both youth and adult players for an exciting day of friendly competition and cultural exchange. Teams competed in various match formats—U-12 youth games, as well as 6v6, 7v7, and 9v9 matches for adults—demonstrating both skill and sportsmanship.
With the rallying cry “Empowering Migrants One Goal at a Time,” the event was more than just a soccer tournament—it was a movement. It created a platform for migrants to express themselves, build confidence, and connect with local communities through teamwork and shared purpose.
Participants were also invited to become ambassadors, taking the message of inclusion, empowerment, and opportunity beyond the field.
This first edition marks the beginning of a promising journey, as Migrants Empowered and their partners aim to expand the initiative, reaching more migrant families and youth across the region.
“Kicking Goals for Change” is proof that the game of soccer can do more than score goals—it can change lives.
